Sitting down with Sussex Born and Bred is
like spending a couple of hours at a really good pub when the local
storyteller has stopped by for a pint of the local best; drink in hand,
he begins to regale listeners with tales of adventures and
misadventures, describing with good humor and a large measure of
affection his interactions the townspeople all around. This is one of
the most charming, delightful, endearing, and funny collection of
anecdotes it has ever been my pleasure to read. Askaroff is an
insatiable collector of stories, and as a traveling repairman, the kind
who actually makes house-calls, he has been invited into more households
than the pope, and he's probably done more practical good.
